Apostille NJ marriage

You got married in New Jersey and you have an original marriage certificate. Is your marriage certificate acceptable for an apostille? What New Jersey marriage certificates qualify for apostilles? If your document does not qualify, how can you get an original New Jersey marriage certificate with an apostille for use in a foreign country?

How to get an apostilled marriage certificate from New Jersey?

(1) Check if your document qualifies for a New Jersey apostille:

In the State of New Jersey vital records signed by local registrars do not qualify for apostilles or legalization by a foreign embassy. You need to get a certified copy of the marriage certificate issued by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services in Trenton. Email a copy of your birth certificate for a free evalution.

(2) If your marriage certificate does not qualify or you do not have a copy, we obtain a certified copy, and then have it legalized by an apostille or foreign embassy. Please contact us. The retrieval of an apostilled certified copy of a New Jersey marriage certificate takes 5-7 business days.

To obtain a certified copy, we will need a copy of your marriage certificate for information. Or, if you do not have a copy, we need the following information:

(a) full names of both spouses
(b) place of marriage (city, county)
(c) exact date of marriage (The exact date is very important as the Department of Health will search only one date for the record, and if the record is not there, a certified copy will not be issued)

The price for the retrieval of a marriage certificate and an apostille is $325. FedEx (within the U.S.) is included, FedEx (International) is or to Eastern Europe or Latin America.

If you have a certified copy from Trenton and qualifies for an apostille,  please send it to us by mail and we will get a New Jersey apostille for you. The price for a NJ apostille is $175, processing time: 5-7 business days. More about how to get a New Jersey apostille...
