Apostille NJ

The State of New Jersey is one of very few U.S. states that issue No Record of Marriage certificates on the state level. These certificates are issued by the Bureau of Vital Statistics of the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services in Trenton, NJ. No Record of Marriage searches are conducted from the year the applicant turned 16 years of age to the present year. You do not have to be present in the U.S. to get this certificate, and have it legalized by a New Jersey apostille or foreign embassy.

How to get an apostilled No Record of Marriage certificate from New Jersey?

002We will search the NJ vital records and obtain a No Record of Marriage certificate from the State of New Jersey, then have it apostilled, and the whole procedure will take only one week. If the document needs to be legalized by a foreign embassy, the processing time will be longer, and will depend on the embassy. Usually, it takes around three weeks. No Record of Marriage searches are conducted from the year the applicant turned 16 years of age to the present year. So the older you are, the more expensive the search will be.

We will need the following information:

  • Your full name at birth (first, middle, last name)
  • Full names of parents as listed on your birth certificate
  • Date of birth
  • Place of birth
  • Year when you turned 16.

The price for the retrieval of a single status certificate and an apostille is $325 + $2 for each year search from the year you turned 16 until present (for example if you are 36 now, the price will be $325 + $40). FedEx (within the U.S.) is included, FedEx (International) is or to Eastern Europe or Latin America. Please contact us

What is the difference between "No Record of Marriage" and Single Status Affidavit"?

As stated above, No Record of Marriage is an official document issued by the State of New Jersey. It is an official document bearing the signature of the State Registrar of the State of New Jersey, and the Seal of the NJ Department of Health and Senior Services. It is based on the search conducted by the Bureau of Vital Statistics for marriage records in your name. The document has the signature of the State Registrar or Acting State Registrar, and the Seal of the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services.

Single Status Affidavit (also called "No Marriage Affidavit" or "Affidavit of Freedom to Marry" or "Certificate of Non-Impediment") is a sworn statement that you are not married at the present time and are eligible to marry. This statement is given by you under oath, and your signature on the affidavit is notarized by a notary public. The responsibility for the truthfulness of the statement lies upon you.

Different countries have different requirements regarding the contents of Single Status Affidavits. Some countries, require that you provide only a general statement, giving you name, date of birth, address, and the statement that you are not married and have no legal impediment to marry. Other countries require more detailed information including your place of employment, the dates of your previous marriages, your religion, the statement that you and your future spouse are not blood relatives, etc. For some countries single status affidavits have to be bi-lingual  (e.g. English/Spanish, English/Vietnamese, English/Russian, etc.)
